I took this picture because I care for insects because I have many in my care, and it shows you how beautiful nature can be when close up.

I was strolling around Dukes Meadows when I noticed some tree stumps and thought there may be some interesting insects in it to photograph. I came across this little red spider thing which I never even knew we had in Chiswick! I took this photo of it and was really happy with the sense of motion it conveyed.

Well the cameras take the photo, flash and IR all that good stuff, but you have to set the stage.
The actors never stand on the mark, never face the camera, and do the most embarrassing things
BUT you do get serendipity.
Green finches are shy and easily disturbed , it takes extreme skill and patience to get a good photo via the usual methods, neither of which I possess.
Enjoy, and they do still exist on Arthur’s pond on Chertsey Road Allotments, so a result.

I wanted to take the photo of this ladybird and then the aphids intervened, squirming away to avoid being eaten, no wonder he/she was static, aphid overdose…… Can’t hold the camera as steadily as I would like , so I have to locate stationary subjects as far as possible, this ladybird was so full of aphids he/she could not move, so my ideal subject. A green bottle fly is an innocuous and common fly, quite pretty in some senses but it does frequent academic papers concerned with forensic science. The development of its larvae and immature flies does indicate the age of a corpse’s demise.
Strange but true, so I look on them with some respect.

While looking for birds to photograph at Chiswick House and Gardens, I spotted some blue dragonflies drinking the nectar from a flowering bush. They moved around very quickly but I was lucky enough to catch one staying still, allowing me to take this closeup photo. Bees often get the spotlight for their importance for pollinating flowers, but insects like these are very important to the process as well!

It was a very foggy day and I was fortunate to have the 210 mm lens handy when a flock of seaguls rose from the Strand-on-the-Green beach. They were flying around like something ftom a Alfred Hitchcock movie when a single bird flew straight in front of me and…click, click, click…

A very foggy day and a wonderful opportunity to take the camera out. A flock of seaguls were by the rivers edge as the tide was going out looking for food.

Spotted these delightful pigeons resting on a very foggy February day sitting on the handrails of a boat by Kew bridge. Presumably flying conditions were just too much for them! (Derek Barker)
