Teasing

Teasles are a photographer’s dream they are always sculptural as each plant grows and then dies back. Adding a hover fly for movement and contrast, picking its way over the last petals is a bonus. 1/250 sec @f/5.6 ISO 250, 200mm *EF70-1200mm f/4 L USM

Peacock Butterfly

Peacock Butterfly ( Aglais io) apparently very common, but my first sighting in our garden, despite its clever camouflage. (Credit – Christine Sweeney)

BEE PARTY

One of the joys volunteering at Chiswick House and Garden is being able to appreciate nature as the seasons change. Four bees enjoying the perfectly formed Allium flower head in summer was impossible to not capture. (Christine Sweeney).

Interesting Red Critter

I was strolling around Dukes Meadows when I noticed some tree stumps and thought there may be some interesting insects in it to photograph. I came across this little red spider thing which I never even knew we had in Chiswick! I took this photo of it and was really happy with the sense of motion it conveyed.

Aphid overdose.

I wanted to take the photo of this ladybird and then the aphids intervened, squirming away to avoid being eaten, no wonder he/she was static, aphid overdose…… Can’t hold the camera as steadily as I would like , so I have to locate stationary subjects as far as possible, this ladybird was so full of aphids he/she could not move, so my ideal subject. NCIS Chiswick

A green bottle fly is an innocuous and common fly, quite pretty in some senses but it does frequent academic papers concerned with forensic science. The development of its larvae and immature flies does indicate the age of a corpse’s demise.
Strange but true, so I look on them with some respect.

Bee in Flight

I always love watching bees at work so was super excited to catch one in flight about to land in a foxglove that was flowering outside Chiswick House Conservatory.  (Credit – Jan Prokop)
